About Grant
Hey y’all!
I’m Grant.
I live in Salt Lake City with my wonderful partner, Danielle, and our two rambunctious cats. I’ve been described as a versatile performer, clinician, vocal coach, choreographer, and arranger.
Music has always been a large part of my life, and I’ve certainly stood on the shoulders of giants bigger than I am (I know, shocker) when it comes to growing in music. I started from a young age with a rich musical diet in my family, and that only became more robust as I began to study music.
There has always been a passion for the choral arts in me, encompassing musical theater, opera, vocal jazz, contemporary a cappella, and especially barbershop; and that’s mainly because of the strong community built within these singing communities. I’ve been part of many of them: The Barbershop Harmony Society, Sweet Adelines International, The Contemporary A Cappella Society, The American Choral Directors Association, and others.
I’ve sung with MANY quartets, choruses, orchestras, bands, symphonies, and other ensembles in my musical life. I’ve been privileged to sing with three different District Championship Quartets, including my current quartet Mischief, the 2022 BHS Rocky Mountain District Champs.
As a music theory nerd, arranging was a strong interest in me from a young age. Honestly, I was just frustrated that I couldn’t ever find “the right version” of the sheet music for the music I had in my head…so I just had to do it myself.
I love teaching voice and doing custom arranging because it’s so specific and personal. I tend to approach the work less as creating a rough-cut “right size” suit for the rack in a shop and more as a tailor designing a suit for a specific shape; every lesson and every arrangement is specific to the personality of the performer, even if that means changing things to be more authentic. I adore seeing artists blossom when they’re equipped to express themselves wholly.
Thanks for reading this far! If you see me at a convention, don’t hesitate to stop me for a hug or a tag. And I hope to help y’all soon!
